Miller Construction Underway with Renovation of Beachcomber Resort & Villas in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Miller Construction has launched the $8.8 million renovation of a Pompano Beach landmark, the Beachcomber Resort & Villas at 1200 S. Ocean Blvd., for owner The Beachcomber Villa, Inc.
Designed by Adache Group Architects, the modernization will upgrade the lobby and interior and exterior amenity areas, while retaining the Old Florida charm that has made the Beachcomber Resort popular with vacationers and locals for decades. Built in the 1960s, the resort was most recently renovated in 2015.
With completion scheduled for December, Miller Construction’s crews are transforming public spaces in the resort’s nine-story main tower by fully renovating the lobby and dining room, adding a new porte cochere, and gutting and rebuilding the bar and kitchen.
Repurposing the resort’s two-story building, Miller is creating new poolside bathrooms, cabanas, a pantry, three guest rooms and a new, three-sided bar with folding glass walls that will open to take advantage of ocean breezes.
Exterior improvements will refresh landscaping throughout the property, resurface decks for both resort pools and renovate the main parking area.
Project challenges include moving materials and crews through areas on the site as narrow as 10 to 15 feet wide. “We’ll use smaller excavators and other equipment to access areas on the property’s ocean side,” said Miller Construction President Brian Sudduth. “The project’s fast-track schedule makes precise planning and logistics essential.”
Miller Construction’s dozens of capital improvement projects for South Florida’s hospitality industry have ranged from new construction to structural, interior and site renovations for clients including Lago Mar Resort and Club, the historic Fisher Island Club, the Riverside Hotel and Lauderdale Yacht Club.
