Miller Construction Announces Plans for New Ft. Lauderdale Headquarters
Regional design/builder is creating high-tech, next generation HQ and optimizing mobility as it streamlines workflow.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Miller Construction announced it is creating a new, high-tech corporate headquarters in Uptown Fort Lauderdale, designed as a collaborative, next-generation construction industry workplace.
Targeting a March 2020 move from its longtime headquarters along U.S. 1 just south of Downtown Fort Lauderdale, the prominent design/builder and construction services firm is gutting and fully renovating an existing building at 5750 N. Powerline Road, which it purchased recently to optimize the innovative communications and technology systems that already support Miller’s robust growth.
“As technology brings our industry greater speed and mobility, we’re building flexible space to simplify collaboration and strengthen relationships among our team, our clients and our subcontractors,” said Miller Construction President Brian Sudduth. “As we continue adding staff at all levels, streamlining workflow and enabling real-time communications on- and off-site will add value for our clients’ project teams,” he added.
Designed by FSMY Architects and Planners, the new 10,600-square-foot headquarters building will feature varied meeting, huddle and training spaces as well as open work areas and private offices.
“As a regional firm active from Miami-Dade through the Treasure Coast, we’re pleased to be gaining quick access to I-95 while staying in Fort Lauderdale,” Sudduth said. “The city has been a great place to build our business for 47 years, and we’re excited to launch Miller Construction’s future in the Uptown District,” he noted. Over the years, Miller purchased properties surrounding its existing office, gradually assembling a 1.4-acre parcel between SE 6 Court and SE 6 Street, which they’ve sold to an investment firm.
Based at the corner of SE 6th Court and South Federal Highway for more than 40 years, Miller Construction built its reputation on responsive, consultative service and award-winning quality, from preconstruction to occupancy. Brothers Tom and Harley Miller, now chairman and CEO respectively, founded the company in 1973 and kept a simple principle at the heart of its culture: Take great care of the client.
With more than 80 percent of its business from repeat clients who are among the region’s leaders in commercial real estate, automotive, retail, healthcare and education sectors, long-term client and subcontractor relationships continue to drive Miller’s growth.
In the early 2000s, the MIllers strategically brought the business into its next generation by identifying and grooming experts from within the company to whom they could smoothly transition the day-to-day leadership. They began a gradual buy-in process with those leaders, and now have a total of 10 employee shareholders.
Known for advanced systems and craftsmanship, Miller Construction has won 398 Craftsmanship Awards through the years from the Construction Association of South Florida -- more than any other contractor.
“Finding talent aligned with our quality, client-centered culture is a crucial challenge, as we add team members and high-performing subcontractors,” Sudduth said. “Our new headquarters will give us a real advantage in continuing to attract great people.” For information visit www.millerconstruction.com
